Mulvane's American Legion Post 136 was officially recognized as the birthplace of the Patriot Guard when this 4000 lb stone was put in place Saturday, June 17, 2006.Made locally by Craig & Pat Wilson of Mulvane, the stone recognizes the prisoners of war (POW) and those missing in action (MIA), the American Legion Riders (ALR) of Kansas and the City of Mulvane as the birthplace of the Patriot Guard in August of 2005.The Patriot Guard is a part of the ALR dedicated to protecting the families of fallen soldiers from those who would protest at their funerals. The Patriot Guard uses their bikes and their bodies to block the view of the families from the protesters.
