In this world of ours, the American Legion Auxiliary shines as an example of unselfish giving. With almost a million members from all walks of life, the Auxiliary administers hundreds of volunteer programs, gives tens of thousands of hours to our communities and veterans, and raises millions of dollars to support our own programs - this is all accomplished with volunteers! The Auxiliary is much more than the name implies as we have achieved our own unique identity while working side-by-side with the veterans who belong to the American Legion. Like the Legion, the Auxiliary's interests have broadened to encompass the entire community.
Through our nearly 12,000 units located in every state and some foreign countries, the Auxiliary embodies the spirit of America that has prevailed through war and peace. We are as solidly behind America today as we were when the Auxiliary was founded in 1920. In 1919, at the very first National Convention of The American Legion, it was agreed that the organization's purpose could not be properly served without the aid and dedication of each member's family. Membership in the Auxiliary is open to Legionnaires' wives, mothers, daughters, sisters, granddaughters and grandmothers. Today, we are recognized as the most influential patriotic women's organization in the world, but our success has not changed our purpose. We join hands with The American Legion to serve God and Country as a family and that bond will never be broken.
To be eligible for membership in the Auxiliary you need to be the mother, wife, sister, daughter, granddaughter, great-granddaughter, or grandmother of a current member of The American Legion or of a deceased veteran who would have been entitled to membership in the American Legion; or a female veteran who served during any of the conflicts stated on our homepage. In addition, eligibility also applies to step-relatives.
There are many benefits associated with membership in the Auxiliary. To name a few, a discount prescription program, dental plan, and eye care; travel accident insurance, discounts on moving expenses and car rentals; and discounted long distance phone and credit card services.
Auxiliary Annual Fees = $15.00
Junior Auxiliary Annual Fees = $10.00
Your dues supplied over 80% of the funds that made these programs possible. Every Member Counts! You don't need an invitation to participate as your help is always needed and appreciated. You will always be welcome. Don't be a stranger!
For God and Country, we associate ourselves together for the following purposes:
To uphold and defend the constitution of the United State of America; to maintain law and order; to foster and perpetuate one hundred percent Americanism; to preserve the memories and incidents of our associations during the Great Wars; to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation; to combat the autocracy of both the classes and the masses; to make right the master of might; to promote peace and goodwill on earth; to safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom, and democracy; to participate in and contribute to the accomplishment of the aims and purposes of The American Legion; to consecrate and sanctify our association by our devotion to mutual helpfulness.
